Rust Proof Patio Dining Sets
RustproofGarden Furniture
IIf you're leaving furniture outside all year round you will need to ensure that your garden furniture is not only weatherproof but also rustproof. Many types of garden furniture can be waterproof and resistant to the elements, however, only certain types of garden furniture are rustproof. Preventing rust in your garden furniture is important because rust will leave a pool of orange rust water around the feet of chairs and legs of tables. And, whilst garden furniture can be replaced if it rusts, this orange pool will stain your decking or patio. Removing rust stains is virtually impossible and often requires replacing the whole area.
The material used on your garden furniture can sometimes rust depending on what you choose. Some of the most popular choices of garden furniture need lots of love and care if they are to last without rusting but many require little maintenance at all.
Rattan Furniture
Synthetic rattan furniture is lightweight, easy to move and will withstand all weathers including rain, frost and direct sunlight. To ensure you choose rattan garden furniture which is rustproof we advise always choosing furniture with aluminium frames. Though 25% to 30% more expensive to manufacture than steel frames, aluminium frames will not rust and have extremely longer guarantees compared to steel furniture. Steel framed furniture will rust in around 1-2 years so often only come with a 1-year guarantee.
However, if you wish for your rattan furniture to last longer than one year without rusting it is important to ensure you choose an aluminium frame over a steel frame. Aluminium framed rattan garden furniture could last between 5-10 years.
Wrought Iron
Wrought iron furniture is often referred to as 'indestructible' however it will heat up in warm weather and cool in cold weather which exposes the paint and often sees it crack. Any cracks must be touched up with paint or it will rust. If well taken care of wrought iron furniture will last for 10-20 years.
Cast Aluminium
A lightweight option compared to iron furniture, Cast Aluminium does not rust. If it is unpainted you can add extra protection with car wax or mineral oil and a regular clean with soapy water will keep this furniture good as new for well up to 10 years.
Plastic
Plastic is a very affordable choice for garden furniture and it is extremely easy to clean – simply hose down and use the same mould busting spray you would use in your bathroom. However, plastic does not fare well when left outside all year long and exposed to the elements. For that reason, plastic garden furniture has a very short lifespan.
Stainless Steel
Whilst plenty cheaper than Cast Aluminium or Wrought Iron, Stainless Steel is not particularly weatherproof and does not have a lengthy lifespan. Although highly resistant to corrosion and stains it can rust and discolour when exposed to the outdoor elements. Stainless Steel will only last 1-2 years when left outside all year round.
Our ultimate suggestion for long-lasting, rustproof garden furniture is Rattan Garden Furniture made with cast aluminium frames as this is not only rustproof but extremely weatherproof against all the elements too.
